Frequently asked questions
Are Yuri Pickleball Paddles USAA Approved or UPA-A Approved?
At this time, we have decided not to get the rackets approved for various reasons, but the main reason is that each model now cost $4500 to certify, plus 9 rackets you never get back.
UAPA wants $20k membership plus 2k per paddle.
Will you get these rackets approved in the future?
We could do a pro series in the future or choose another approval process in order to sponsor some pro players.
Why have you decided not to approve the rackets through USAA or any other governingbody?
At this point, we are focused on making premium pickleball paddles for different styles of pickleball players. I want to make rackets that give you an edge over your opponent. We
want to make rackets that focus on power, some that focus on spin, some that focus on defense, etc. The aim of USAA is to make sure the rackets do not give pro players an edge over their opponents. They want to level the playing field. We believe there are many different styles of play and players and rackets should conform to those styles. We also believe in the evolution of pickleball and want to make the game more exciting.
Do you believe USAA approval to be necessary and why not?
USSA is not a consumer advocacy group. It's not trying to protect the consumer to make sure the paddles are built or designed as the manufacturer intended. It’s no Consumer Reports.
First, you have to pay the $4500 per model and give them 9 rackets. So it feels more like extortion than protecting the consumer. Advocacy groups like Consumer Reports used to buy the products, test them, and give plausible advice to the consumer on the rating of the product. This is not the intent of USAA. Its intention is to control and mandate rules on how they feel the game should be played. It's basically a pay-to-play system that favors the large corporations. You give us money, and we will decide if we approve you or not.
On a side note, our cores have been approved by the manufacturer’s in-house brand. So the cores on the Signature Series, excluding the Vortex, have already been approved under the manufacturer’s brand. The Battle Ground Series is also using cores that have been approved by other brands made by that manufacturer. So each brand must enter and pay for recertification under its brand.
The logic of this system is to have an equal playing field on the court. So let's talk about adding weights to the paddles. You can add as much weight to the paddles wherever you want, and there are no restrictions. Anyone who understands physics and weight and balance knows that adding weights can significantly increase Spin, Power, and offer less vibration or Control officially destroys the narrative of even play. Adding weights should be illegal in tournament play in order for the logic to maintain itself.
You said earlier your focused on making premium pickleball paddles. What makes yoursdifferent?
I have taken all the existing technologies and we have upgraded the rackets in every way.
First, we are using a T-800 carbon top layer. The T-800 carbon last longer has better spin and more power. Most of your paddles in the market have a T-700 top layer. We have upgraded the edge guard pipe to more exciting colors and its a little better grade. We also partnered with the best manufacturers in China that have the best cores. The over grip handles are as close to leather as you can get, super absorbent with air breathable holes and finger placement ridge for better grip. We really have reconstructed the paddle from top down at a super affordable price. This was my motivation to make premium paddles at an affordable price so everyone can have a a great paddle.
